Chelsea boss names 27-year-old ace as the vice-captain
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that Jorginho is officially the vice-captain of the team after excelling with his performances during the opening phase of the season.
The Italy international was not a fan favourite during his debut campaign last term where N'Golo Kante was played higher up the field to facilitate his role as the holding midfielder.
Jorginho has continued in the same midfield position this season but his performances have improved with his quicker decision-making from the centre of the park.
Ahead of the Southampton clash, Lampard acknowledged that Jorginho is the vice-captain behind Cesar Azpilicueta and hailed his influence on the team's displays.
"Yes, Jorginho is vice-captain as it stands. Jorginho, I keep talking about him, is a character and a driver. It is very evident to see on the pitch," he told via Goal.com.
Chelsea are currently ninth in the Premier League standings with 11 points but they can potentially jump into the top four with a victory on Sunday, should the other results go their way.
Lampard's side are presently on a roll with three victories on the bounce but there is still room for improvement with the defensive displays. They have kept just one clean sheet this campaign.
