Martial keen to score regular goals for United

French striker Anthony Martial has said that he is eager to take the responsibility of leading the line for Manchester United after being rewarded with the number nine shirt.

The young forward started his United career with the jersey but he had to sacrifice the shirt between 2016 and 2019 where the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku wore the number.

For the current season, Martial has taken back the number nine shirt after the departure of Lukaku and he is now looking forward to contributing regularly to the scoresheet for the club.

"Now that I've taken the No 9 shirt back once again, all he [Ole] has said to me is that I have a lot of responsibility and that I have to score goals, so that's what I am trying to do," he told Sky Sports.

Martial has not featured for the Red Devils since the end of August with a thigh problem but he is likely to make his comeback during Sunday's league clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that the Frenchman may not participate from the starting XI after just returning to training but it remains to be seen whether there is any surprise on the cards.
