Matic set for United extension

Manchester United are reportedly considering the option of renewing the contract of midfielder Nemanja Matic through the extension clause available.

The Serbia international has dropped down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term and he has made just two starts in the Premier League.

As a result, he has been linked with a mid-season move to Inter Milan but the Red Devils seem reluctant to accept the proposal by extending his existing deal, The Mail reports.

Matic's current contract expires at the end of the campaign but the Red Devils are likely to keep him beyond that period by triggering the 12-month option inserted into his deal.

United are scheduled to host Liverpool in tomorrow's Premier League contest and Matic could be handed with a starting spot with Paul Pogba nursing an ankle concern while Fred has simply failed to impress.

The Red Devils are currently experiencing their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign and they could drop eight points off the top four, should they succumb to a defeat against Liverpool.
