Unai Emery makes surprising claim about his side's performance in Sheffield

Unai Emery news

Arsenal manager Unai Emery made a surprising claim following his side's 1-0 loss at Sheffield United. The Spanish manager has taken flak for his negative and dull tactics and Arsenal look lethargic and poor defensively. The loss to newly-promoted Sheffield did very little to alleviate concerns about the Spaniard's inability as a top-level coach. Reflecting on the result, Emery was quick to dismiss any responsibility stating that "Arsenal did not deserve to lose."

In his press conference, Emery was quoted saying "I think we didn’t deserve to lose and also I think we conceded a lot of corners in the first half to them and they scored the goal in one action. But it can happen. Above all, it was to improve in not conceding those metres on the pitch and to get very easy to our box for that corner. Another [thing], when we have the opportunity to attack we created more chances than them but didn’t score today. There was a clear chance for Pepe but really we didn’t deserve to lose."

Emery also evaded questions about his best eleven and gave little to no clarity about what sort of football he wants to play and which players are suited for it. The only certainty is that Arsenal fans are unhappy with their side and if Emery does not deviate from his negative and passive tactics, Arsenal will not make the top four.
