Arsenal readying cut-price deal for Bundesliga centre-back?

Dayot Upamecano news

Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a cut-price deal for defender Dayot Upamecano, whose contract with RB Leipzig expires at the end of the next season.

The north London giants were heavily linked with a move for the 20-year-old last summer but they were eventually put off by the £70m release clause on his contract.

Still, the Gunners did strengthen the central defence with the signings of William Saliba and David Luiz but the latter is regarded as not more than a stopgap option.

According to The Sun, Upamecano's release clause will reduce with every transfer window and he could be available for around £53m when the season concludes.

However, the Gunners are keen to recruit the Frenchman as early as the winter transfer window and they are optimistic of agreeing a deal worth £40m for the exciting centre-back.

Upamecano made a slow beginning to the campaign following a knee injury but he has found his groove over the past month and has started six games on the bounce for Leipzig.
