Lampard still has defensive concerns with his team

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that the club have room for improvement on the defensive side of their game.

The Blues registered a 2-1 Premier League win over Watford on Saturday but they were made to sweat during the final 10 minutes with the Hornets seeking to equalise.

Gerard Deulofeu's successful penalty in the 80th minute offered the Hornets a route back into the game and goalkeeper Ben Foster nearly scored the equalising goal with seconds left on the clock.

Speaking after the encounter, Lampard was pleased with the performance of the team and heaped praise on Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, who orchestrated the fine display from the centre of the park.

Still, the 41-year-old expressed concerns over the defensive resolve of his side, who failed to keep a clean sheet for the ninth occasion in the Premier League from just 11 matches.

"We played really well, our midfield was outstanding, but we just cannot have that sloppy bit near the end. It was a terrible 10 minutes considering how the game had gone. We need to be more clinical, we got a bit sloppy," he told BBC Sport.

With the victory, the Capital outfit have jumped to the third position in the standings but Leicester City could leapfrog them on the table, should they beat Crystal Palace on the road on Sunday.
