Chelsea receive blow with key transfer target sustaining an injury

Nathan Ake news

Ake's move to Chelsea in doubt?

Chelsea have received a potential blow to their transfer plans for January following a serious hamstring injury for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

The Blues are expected to spend on new signings at the turn of the year after their transfer ban was lifted by the Court of Arbitration of Sport this week.

According to The Telegraph, Ake has been earmarked as the prime target to resolve the club's defensive concern and they could re-sign him from Bournemouth by triggering the £40m buy-back clause available.

However, the Dutchman may not necessarily make an immediate impact for them this season, considering he has picked up a hamstring problem which could keep him sidelined for a few months.

Ake graduated through the ranks of Chelsea but he failed to cement a regular place in the Premier League. After a short-term loan stint with the Cherries in the 2016/2017 season, he joined the South Coast outfit on a permanent basis in June 2017.

The Dutchman has remained unscathed in the past few years with Eddie Howe's side and his recent setback should be a concern for the Cherries, who are already without several key players with injuries.
