Atletico Madrid to sign Chelsea defender on loan?

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso could reportedly be the subject of a loan approach from Atletico Madrid when the transfer window reopens next month.

Alonso has been with the Blues since the summer of 2016 but his future with the club remains uncertain, having fallen down the pecking order under manager Frank Lampard.

At present, both Emerson and Cesar Azpilicueta are ahead of him in the selection order for the left-back role and it appears that he could make the switch to a new club at the turn of the year.

According to Cadena Cope, Atleti will attempt to negotiate a loan move for the Spaniard in January and they are prepared to include an option to buy next summer.

Diego Simeone has regularly utilised Renan Lodi and Saul Niguez on the left side of the defence this term but he is eyeing a fresh recruit in the New Year with the club struggling in an attacking point of view.

The Madrid giants have the best defence in La Liga with just 10 goals conceded from 16 games but their attacking displays have been poor with an average of one goal scored per match.

They are already eight points behind league leaders Barcelona after playing an extra game and the pressure is mounting on the shoulders of Simeone after the squad overhaul and massive spending over the summer.
