Chelsea planning to trigger release clause for German striker?

Werner to Chelsea?

Chelsea are reportedly planning to trigger the release clause of German striker Timo Werner with manager Frank Lampard aiming to strengthen the centre-forward department in the New Year.

Tammy Abraham has been the undisputed starter to lead the line for the Blues this term and he has already netted 13 times in all competitions for the club.

Still, Lampard is said to be eyeing competition for the England international and The Express claims that Werner is the prime target on their radar for the winter transfer window.

The same outlet claims that the German could be available for a release clause of just £27m and the club are seriously considering an approach for the former Stuttgart youngster.

Werner has been in stupendous form for Leipzig in all competitions this season and he has already amassed 21 goals and seven assists under the guidance of Julian Nagelsmann.

As many as 10 European sides are said to be vying for his signature next month, the Blues' prospects of signing him could depend on whether they can assure him with a starting spot.
