Atletico Madrid are ready to free Cavani from his PSG nightmare
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is looking to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window and latest reports indicate that the player at the top of his list, is out of favour Paris Saint-Germain front man Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan international has just six months left on his current deal in the French capital, but his relationship with his current employers has completely broken down. The 32-year-old was omitted from Wednesday’s squad that beat Monaco 4-1 after submitting a transfer request and a January exit now looks inevitable.
Atleti however, are bound by Financial Fair-Play regulations and Simeone has been told that he must first sell before making a move for PSG striker. The player most likely to be offloaded is French winger Thomas Lemar who is being courted by several Premier League clubs.
Arsenal is reported to be particularly interested in the 24-year-old, but The Gunners are understood to prefer to do a player swap sending Lemar’s international team-mate Alexandre Lacazette in the opposite direction.
PSG on the other hand, are thought to be reluctant to let Cavani leave before the end of the season even though the player will be a free-agent in the summer.
