Mikel Arteta responds to John Stones speculation

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has rubbished the recent speculation which has linked the club with a possible loan move for Manchester City's John Stones.

The Gunners are looking for an experienced central defender to add to their ranks this month and a recent report from The Sun claimed that Stones could be lured from the Cityzens on a short-term deal.

However, speaking on TalkSPORT, Arteta said that Stones has many attributes he is looking for in a central defender but that won't necessarily result in a loan approach.

"Obviously when I look at centre-backs he’s got many attributes I like from one, but we are not interested in him," he told when asked about the club's interest in the ex-Everton man.

Arsenal will be aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they entertain Chris Wilder's Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners are currently 10th in the league standings and the weekend's game is a must-win, considering they are already 11 points adrift of the top four positions.
