Arsenal missed out on signing Brazilian defender
Arsenal reportedly failed with an attempt to sign Gabriel from Lille during the recently-concluded January transfer window.
The Gunners were keen on landing a new centre-back last month and they eventually landed the signature of Pablo Mari on loan from Flamengo.
According to FootMercato, Gabriel was the first-choice option for the north London side but they could not convince Lille to accept an initial loan deal with the option to buy in the summer.
It is still claimed that Mikel Arteta's side are keeping a close eye on the player's developments and they could come up with a fresh approach when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
The Capital outfit were able to negotiate an instalment package for the club-record purchase of Nicolas Pepe last summer and they may propose a similar deal for Gabriel, who is also said to be a target for Everton.
Arsenal are currently placed 10th in the Premier League standings. They are unbeaten in the past five league games but have managed just one victory during that run.
