Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is reportedly edging closer to a comeback with the first-team squad after playing an hour for the development side.

The England international has been out of action since May with an Achilles problem and his return has been delayed due to a couple of setbacks along the way.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has refused to provide a suitable comeback date for Loftus-Cheek but the club have now provided a positive update regarding his process of getting match fit.

"As part of his rehabilitation he played an hour at Cobham for our development squad this morning. He will continue to build up his fitness in the coming weeks," read a post on their Instagram account.

Cheslea made no signings during the recently concluded transfer window and Lampard will have to depend on the players at hand to make the difference on the field.

Loftus-Cheek proved an influential player in the midfield prior to his serious injury and Lampard will be hoping that the midfielder can contribute towards the club's success in the final months of the season.
