Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly in the running to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona during this summer's transfer window.

Coutinho is currently on loan at Bayern Munich where he has impressed with seven goals and eight assists and the club have the option of signing him permanently at the end of the campaign.

However, the Bavarian giants are unlikely to meet the £102m price tag and reports have emerged that the Blaugrana may consider lowering the valuation of the player to attract offers, The Express reports.

It is added that both United and City are monitoring the situation and they could potentially go head-to-head to land the services of the former Liverpool star.

United have recently bolstered their squad with a creative midfielder in the form of Bruno Fernandes but they are still eyeing another player with attacking attributes.

City, meanwhile, are expected to part ways with David Silva when his contract expires in the summer and Coutinho has been earmarked as a possible target to replace the Spaniard.
