Chelsea, Arsenal eyeing deal for Belgian star?
Chelsea and Arsenal could reportedly battle it out to sign Dries Mertens on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The Belgian has a couple of months remaining on his Napoli deal and so far, there has been no progress with regards to a long-term extension with the Serie A side.
Mertens will obviously have his contract extended for at least a month in order to finish the season, which has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, he is thereafter likely to pursue a fresh challenge and Gazzetta dello Sport claims that both the Blues and Gunners want to secure his services on a Bosman move.
Mertens was the subject of interest from Frank Lampard's side in January but he declined the advances in order to stay put with Napoli for the remainder of his contract.
The Belgian has experienced an injury-plagued season but he has still impressed with a tally of 12 goals and six assists from 29 appearances across all competitions.
