Atletico Madrid will have to pay a fee of around £48m to Chelsea for the services of Alvaro Morata when the transfer window reopens.

The west London club parted ways with Morata on an 18-month loan in January 2019 after Atletico agreed on the obligation to buy for £48m.

According to Marca, the Spanish side are expected to settle the sum in the coming months and that would be a huge outlay, considering the financial climate due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Diego Simeone's side are likely to deal with either swap or loan agreements this summer and reports suggest that Morata's permanent transfer could represent their biggest piece of business.

Morata has not made a big impression since his return to the Spanish top-flight and he has scored only 14 goals from 38 outings. Still, he is still regarded highly by Simeone and has remained a regular starter.

Chelsea have already made the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax for next season. They are likely to purchase a new striker, central defender and left-back during the summer.
