Newcastle United to swoop for 27-goal French striker?

Odsonne Edouard news

Edouard to Newcastle United?

Newcastle United have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to sign Odsonne Edouard from Celtic during the summer transfer window.

The Tyneside outfit are on the verge of a £300m takeover from PCP Capital Partners, who are backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

According to The Sun, the buying consortium is expected to focus on bolstering the attack this summer and the focus remains on signing at least one high-profile striker.

Edouard, who has bagged 27 goals and 19 assists for Celtic this season, has emerged as one of the transfer targets for the Magpies alongside Rangers' Alfredo Morelos.

The former Paris Saint-Germain was valued at more than £35m earlier this year but he could be available for around £25m amid the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the marksman but they are unlikely to afford the striker unless they recoup sufficient funds from player sales or resort to a staggered payment setup.
