Chelsea in good position to sign Barcelona defender
Chelsea are reportedly in a good position to sign Xavier Mbuyamba from Barcelona with talks over a contract extension having stalled.
The 18-year-old had trained with the Blues' reserve side last summer but he could not sign for them because of the transfer ban which was imposed by FIFA.
As a result, the central defender made the switch to the Camp Nou from MVV Maastricht and he has since been plying his trade for the Under 19 squad.
According to Sport, the Blues are planning to make a fresh attempt to sign the Dutchman this summer with Frank Lampard said to have been impressed by the potential of the teenager.
The player's agent has previously confirmed that the Blues have promised the defender with a regular role in two years' time and it remains to be seen whether they can strike a deal with the Catalan giants.
Mbuyamba has yet to make an appearance for the senior Barcelona side. Talks were recently held over an improved contract but there has been no solution found.
