Tottenham Hotspur plan fresh contract talks with midfielder
Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to open talks with Eric Dier over a new long-term contract, a report from Football Insider claims.
The England international has made 235 appearances for the north London side but he has recently struggled to nail down a regular role.
Dier's current deal with Spurs expires at the end of next season and they are looking to reward him with a fresh contract, given they are unlikely to find a like-for-like replacement this summer.
With the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the club don't have the funds to make any big-money signings and they are likely to settle for bargains deals ahead of next season.
Dier played regularly in the central defence prior to the shutdown and he may receive more playing time in the position with Jan Vertonghen tipped to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.
