Chelsea make contract offer to Brazilian star

Chelsea are reportedly close to landing the signature of Thiago Silva on a free transfer.

The Brazil international has parted ways with Paris Saint-Germain after eight seasons and his last appearance came in the Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich.

According to Sky Sports, the Blues are leading the race to sign the former Fluminense graduate and they have already held talks with his representative.

It is added that they are prepared to hand a one-year contract to the 35-year-old with the option for another 12 months, should he make a good impression.

Silva has yet to make a decision over his future and he recently declined suggestions that he has agreed to join Fiorentina in the Serie A.

The veteran wants to represent Brazil at the 2022 World Cup and he will want the guarantee of a starting spot at Stamford Bridge next season.

Meanwhile, it is claimed that the arrival of a new centre-back could pave the way for the departure of Fikayo Tomori on a potential loan deal.
