Chelsea to announce seventh major signing this week

Chelsea are expected to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes by the end of the week.

The Blues have already agreed a deal of around £18m for the Senegal international and earlier last week, it was reported that he had arrived in London for his medical.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that the formalities for the move have been finalised and an announcement could be made by the Blues in the coming days.

Kepa Arrizabalaga was picked for the Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion on the road and it remains to be seen whether Mendy claims the number one role after joining the club.

Arrizabalaga experienced a difficult 2019/2020 season with the west London giants and he managed an average save percentage of only 54 over the course of the campaign.

This has contributed to the decision to pursue another shot-stopper. Arrizabalaga has no intention of parting ways with the club despite the anticipated arrival of Mendy.
