Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged his former club to make a fresh move for Houssem Aouar when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Gunners wanted to sign both Aouar and Thomas Partey in the recent summer transfer window, but they were able to only recruit the latter.

Partey joined the north London giants on deadline day from Atletico Madrid after they triggered the £45m release clause on his contract.

The Ghanaian has already made a good impression in the defensive midfield role, but Wright believes the Gunners also need to bring in Aouar.

"They still need more, he’s not the main one and that’s why Arsenal went for Houssem Aouar as well. I’m hoping they can still get him at some stage but Partey is a massive improvement on what Arsenal have got," He told Premier League productions.

The Gunners failed with a £35m bid for Aouar this summer. It remains to be seen whether they are willing to meet Les Gones' £50m price tag at the turn of the year.

Mikel Arteta's side recently suffered 1-0 defeat to Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium where they lacked the cutting edge in the final third.

Aouar, on the other hand, starred for Lyon in their 4-1 thrashing of Monaco. He provided an assist and scored from the penalty spot.
