Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has said that he has been left bemused by the fact that Mesut Ozil was left out of the 25-man Premier League squad.

Ozil has not featured for the Gunners since they returned to action after the coronavirus shutdown and he has recently been excluded from their Premier League and Europa League squads.

The German's current contract is due to expire in June next year and he has said on multiple occasions that he won't leave the club until the completion of the deal.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Wilshere described Ozil as one of the best players he has played with and finds it difficult to understand why he has been ignored by Mikel Arteta.

"He’s one of the best players I’ve played with. All I can do is comment on him as a footballer and I know what he can give, so it does make it difficult to understand," He told.

"But I’m not in the club, I don’t know what’s happened. But that’s why [Mikel] Arteta’s the manager, he makes the decisions and that’s down to him."

Ozil had the chance to move to Saudi Arabia this summer, but decided to reject the proposal. Of late, he has been linked with a move to MLS, but that appears unlikely to happen before tomorrow's transfer deadline.
