Liverpool receive boost in signing David Alaba
Liverpool have received a boost in signing David Alaba from Bayern Munich after the German champions retracted their contract offer.
The Bavarian giants were in negotiations with Alaba and his agent over a fresh contract over the past few months, but they recently made the decision to pull out of talks.
With Alaba's contract expiring in eight months' time, Bayern could be tempted to sell him during the winter transfer window and Marca claims that the Reds are among the leading contenders to sign him.
Barcelona were previously credited with an interest in the Austria international, but reports claim that they can't afford to pay his £7.2m salary demands amid the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are expected to pursue a new centre-back with the long-term injury for Virgil van Dijk and Alaba could be the perfect fit with his vast experience.
Alaba has featured on the left side of the defence for a major part of his career, but over the past year, he has excelled at the heart of the backline for the reigning European champions.
