Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided a fitness update on Joel Matip and Naby Keita ahead of the Premier League clash against Manchester United.

Joel Matip has been sidelined since late December with an adductor problem, but he has returned to training in recent days. Klopp has said that the centre-back would be assessed prior to the clash.

"Joel is close. Does it now make sense to throw him into a game with one or two sessions, which he didn't do yet, but today and tomorrow he might be involved," He told Liverpoolfc.com.

Elsewhere, the German head coach confirmed that Naby Keita won't play any part in the encounter as he has yet to recover from the muscle injury sustained last month.

"Naby is not ready for involvement. It's not a big thing; it's a little bit like with other players in the past when they came back from injuries and then because of the amount of games and situation in the squad they had to play," He added.

The Reds are currently three points behind Manchester United for the top spot on the Premier League table. Their form has been poor over the past three games where they have picked up only two points.

Still, they are a dominant side at home with an unbeaten league streak of 66 matches and will go into the United game as favourites to come up with the three points.
