Arsenal make their first January signing
Arsenal have made their first signing of the January transfer window with the arrival of goalkeeper Mat Ryan on a temporary deal.
The Gunners signed Alex Runarsson to replace Emiliano Martinez as the back-up goalkeeper last summer, but he has failed to impress.
That has paved the way for the loan signing of Ryan from Brighton & Hove Albion. The deal does not include the option to buy.
Ryan had been the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for Brighton for three seasons, but he fell out-of-favour earlier this term.
Still, he is a quality shot-stopper when in form and he should provide an upgrade on Runarsson, who has received criticism from some fans.
Runarsson is likely to be loaned out for the rest of the season and reports claim that he could return to the French Ligue 1.
Meanwhile, Ryan could make his Gunners debut against Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday afternoon.
