Odegaard to join Arsenal on loan

Arsenal are favourites to land Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano reports.

The Norwegian had an excellent campaign on loan with Real Sociedad last term where he bagged seven goals and nine assists from 36 games.

Owing to his displays, Los Blancos recalled him to their first-team squad, but he has barely featured for them under Zinedine Zidane.

The 22-year-old has managed less than 400 minutes of gametime and he is now on the verge of joining the Gunners on a short-term loan.

Sociedad were initially the front-runners to sign him before the Gunners jumped ahead after the intervention of manager Mikel Arteta.

Arteta has personally spoken with Odegaard and has assured that the playmaker would be guaranteed regular first-team football.

Odegaard can play anywhere in the attack, but he has mostly excelled from the number 10 role over the past few years.

Emile Smith Rowe has made the position his own in recent weeks and it remains to be seen how Arteta deals with the situation.
