Mikel Arteta provides contract update on Alexandre Lacazette
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the contract situation of Alexandre Lacazette ahead of the weekend's Premier League clash at Burnley.
The Frenchman has been with the Gunners since the summer of 2017 and over the past three-and-a-half seasons, he has bagged 59 goals and 28 assists from 157 appearances.
His current deal with the north London side expires in June next year and there have been suggestions that the club may sanction his departure instead of handing him a new contract.
However, in the pre-match press conference, Arteta emphasised that he is happy with the performances of Lacazette and said that the contract talks will begin soon with the marksman.
He told Arsenal.com: "I am really happy with him and the discussions about his contract will happen soon and we'll see what happens. I hope that the players who are with contract are going to continue with us."
Lacazette featured on the bench for four straight games before starting in the 3-1 Premier League win over Leicester City where he scored the second goal from the penalty spot.
