Fernandes set for bumper United contract

Manchester United are prepared to hand Bruno Fernandes with a new long-term deal, a report from The Star claims.

The Portuguese joined from Sporting Lisbon in January last year, and he has since been a revelation for the Red Devils.

Fernandes has registered 40 goals and 25 assists from 79 games, and the club are now prepared to reward him.

He is currently on wages of around £100,000-a-week, and reports claim that the hierarchy are ready to double his wages.

Talks have been held with his representative, and the contract extension could be confirmed at the end of the campaign.

Fernandes recently created Premier League history with the most goal contributions in a single campaign for a midfielder.

He is currently valued at around £81m as per Transfermarkt. He is likely to sign a five-year deal with the option for 12 months.

Meanwhile, the club have yet to resolve the future of midfielder Paul Pogba whose contract expires in 13 months' time.
