Xhaka set to join Roma

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has agreed personal terms with AS Roma ahead of joining them, football.london claims.

Roma have been in negotiations with the Gunners in recent days, and they are on the cusp of signing the midfielder.

The 28-year-old has already agreed a five-year deal with the Serie A outfit, and he could join them over the next few days.

The Gunners recently rejected a bid of around £13m for Xhaka, and they have now received an improved £17m offer.

They are expected to accept the package. The club are already lining up a suitable replacement for their former captain.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' Ruben Neves is reportedly their top target, and he could cost as much as £40m this summer.

The Gunners are hoping to lower the asking price, and could offer Ainsley Maitland-Niles as a makeweight for the Portuguese.

Maitland-Niles came on the verge of joining the Midlands outfit last summer before Mikel Arteta vetoed the transfer.
