Arsenal make enquiry to sign West Bromwich Albion star
Arsenal have made an enquiry over the ability of West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, The Mirror reports.
The north London club are eyeing a new back-up goalkeeper with Alex Runarsson set to be loaned out.
Mat Ryan did a good job on loan from Brighton earlier this year, but he has made the permanent move to Real Sociedad.
It is now reported that they have made an approach to sign Johnstone, who is widely expected to leave the Baggies.
The England international has entered the final year of his contract, and he could be available for £10m.
West Ham United have also been linked with him, but they are only willing to pay £5m pounds up front.
The Gunners are willing to meet the price tag, but Johnstone would have to settle for a back-up role.
Bernd Leno has been the undisputed number one for the Gunners, and he has two year left on his contract.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is content with the German, and could keep him for another season at least.
