Manchester United have confirmed an agreement to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the centre-back, and they have eventually landed his signature.

The club have not specified the contract details, but reports claim that he will put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal.

A package of £42m has been agreed between the clubs. United are expected to pay around £34m up front for Varane.

Varane is expected to travel to Manchester in the coming days. He could be officially unveiled following his quarantine.

United recently signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73m. Varane's arrival will take their summer spending to over £110m.

The hierarchy are planning to make two more signings, but that would be dependent on funds recouped from player sales.

Paul Pogba has been tipped to leave the club after declining a new contract beyond next summer. United value him at £50m.

Jesse Lingard could also head for the exit door for around £25m.
