Arsenal midfielder to sign new four-year contract?
Arsenal are reportedly planning to reward midfielder Granit Xhaka with a new long-term contract.
The Swiss has been with the club for the past five years, registering 220 appearances across all competitions.
Earlier this month, it appeared that he could be heading to AS Roma with the Serie A club in advanced negotiations.
However, talks have reportedly broken over the price tag, and the Gunners are now keen on extending his stay.
Xhaka has two years remaining on his contract, and the club are planning to hand him a fresh four-year deal.
He is currently on £100,000-a-week. The contract extension would assure him a reasonable hike on his wages.
The Gunners are likely to end the pursuit of another central midfielder if Xhaka agrees to pen an extension.
He has been a regular starter under manager Mikel Arteta when fit, and the Spaniard continues to value him highly.
Arsenal recently confirmed their third summer signing with Ben White arriving from Brighton for £50 million.
