Arsenal handed boost in landing Bundesliga midfielder
Arsenal have been handed a boost in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria next summer.
The Switzerland international has entered the final year of his contract, and he has snubbed a contract extension.
He is free to negotiate a pre-contract in January, and the Gunners are among favourites to reach an agreement.
The north London club are long-term admirers of the 24-year-old, and were linked with him earlier this summer.
There were suggestions that he could be swapped with Granit Xhaka, but nothing materialised beyond the speculation.
Xhaka ended up signing a new deal until June 2024, but reports claim that Zakaria is seen as a long-term replacement.
The Swiss is a defensive midfielder by trade. He is solid with his distribution and has also impressed with his dribbling qualities.
Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in his services, and the Gunners will need to act fast to sign him.
He is set to demand wages of around £80,000-a-week at his next club.
