Liverpool need to trigger Goncalves' release clause

Liverpool will need to pay £67 million to sign Sporting Lisbon attacker Pedro Goncalves, Portuguese outlet Record claims.

Goncalves has made immense progress over the past couple of years. He bagged 23 goals in all competitions for Sporting last term.

His performances have grabbed the attention of several European clubs including Arsenal, and the Reds have now joined the pursuit.

However, the 23-year-old is unlikely to come cheaply with Sporting reluctant to sell him for anything less than his release clause.

The club sold Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United in January last year. He has since been a huge success with 76 goal contributions.

Sporting believe Goncalves could have a similar impact in England. They recently extended his deal until 2026 with a £67m buy-out clause.

There have been no formal offers on the table for the Portuguese. It remains to be seen whether the Reds will make an approach for him.

The club have recently found creativity from midfield with Naby Keita among the goals, but the Guinea international remains injury prone.

Goncalves is comfortable playing in an attacking midfield role, but he has recently been successful operating from the right-wing position.
