Chelsea remain hopeful of recalling Emerson from his season-long loan at Lyon, Fabrizio Romano reports.

The west London giants are currently short in the left wing-back department after Ben Chilwell's knee injury.

The England international has undergone a surgery, and is unlikely to return for the remainder of the campaign.

Hence, Marcos Alonso is the only specialist option. There have been question marks over the Spaniard's displays.

According to Romano, the Blues are unlikely to make a permanent signing, and are looking for a temporary solution.

Emerson was loaned out to Lyon last summer. The Blues are desperate to recall him and are willing to pay a compensation fee.

Lyon have the option to buy him for €15 million in the summer, but the Blues are willing to offer up to €4m to recall the Italian.

Les Gones are reluctant to accept the proposal as of now. The club are short in the position as well with Henrique the only back-up.
