Diego Carlos set for Newcastle transfer?

Diego Carlos on way to England

Sevilla defender Diego Carlos will be Newcastle's next big money signing, after the Toon Army's transfer bid of 50 million euros was accepted by the La Liga side. 28-year-old Diego Carlos has caught the eye of Newcastle's scouting network.

Newcastle have identified Carlos as their next transfer target as they look for strength in the centre of defence, and the Brazilian is said to be desperate for a move to England and the Premier League.

It is understood that Sevilla were initially reluctant to sell the defender, but after Newcastle's minimum fee release clause bid was triggered, Sevilla had no option but to allow the player to talk to the Magpies.

Just last week, the defender suggested a potential move would be unlikely, saying to reporters regarding his Sevilla stint: "I still have a lot of time here."

However, money does talk in the transfer market and Newcastle will likely double Diego Carlos' wage if he moves to England.

It is unknown as to whether or not a work permit will be a problem, as the defender already has 7 caps for the Brazilian Olympic team, but it is believed Newcastle should be able to secure a permit for the player to move to England.
