Manchester United are unlikely to explore a deal for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria this month.

The Red Devils have been fancied to pursue another defensive midfielder, and Zakaria has been earmarked as a potential transfer target.

However, according to ESPN, the hierarchy are reluctant to make an approach to sign him despite his contract expiring in less than six months.

Zakaria could be recruited for just £6m this winter, but the board are not keen on doing any business until a permanent manager is appointed.

Ralf Rangnick has spoken with Zakaria's agents while reports claim that he is also interested in RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara.

Both players are admired by the German tactician, but the Red Devils are unlikely to grant his wish as he will step down in the summer.

Rangnick will take up a consultant role after his caretaker job. He will be hoping to add his input when the club make summer signings.

Still, he may not pursue players of his own as the next manager may have a different philosophy and could prefer different names in the window.
