Barcelona and Bayern Munich vying for Chelsea defender

Barcelona and Bayern Munich could go head-to-head to land Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen this summer.

The Dane is currently contracted to the Blues until June. He has already decided against penning a renewal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Christensen is unlikely to join another Premier League club out of respect for the Blues.

Outside England, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are deemed the main contenders, and the latter could be favourites.

While there is fierce competition for places at Camp Nou, the same can't be said about Bayern ahead of the summer.

The Bavarian giants are set to lose Niklas Sule on a free transfer. Christensen could be the perfect successor for the German.

The 25-year-old previously spent two years on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, where he made immense progress.

Bayern are aware of his exploits in the Bundesliga, and believe he could seamlessly fit into their plans for next season.

Christensen may delay the decision over his future until the summer.
