Wirtz set for City move?

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is preparing for life after Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan with a potential move for German versatile midfielder Florian Wirtz. The 19-year-old is seen as the brightest prospect to emerge from Germany in the last 5 years.

Wirtz has already proven himself to be an able midfielder at a top Bundesliga side, having made his debut in 2020 for Bayer Leverkusen. Since then, the 5 foot 9 midfielder has appeared over 60 times for his club. The German full international has recently caught the eye of rivals Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, but Wirtz is reportedly keen on a move to England already.

Wirtz can play anywhere in midfield, including as a deep-lying playmaker, a box-to-box midfielder as well as a winger. Primarily, Wirtz likes to play as an attacking midfielder. However, it is his skill in the Gegenpress system that is believed to have attracted City coach Pep Guardiola to a potential 70 million euro move this summer.

With 7 goals in 24 Bundesliga games so far this season, the dynamic midfielder has already proven himself at the highest level, and is ready to embark on an even greater challenge in the Premier League.
