Tottenham to make summer transfer move for John McGinn
Manchester United have opted not to make a transfer move for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn, clearing the path for Tottenham to sign the Scottish international player. Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has been informed that he will receive a transfer budget of close to £120 million this summer, and McGinn could be available for a fraction of that.
Aston Villa have reportedly given up trying to persuade McGinn to stay put for another season at Villa Park, as the 27-year-old pursues a new challenge with a bigger club. McGinn is desperate to play in the Champions League and hopes a move to Tottenham will provide that opportunity.
McGinn arrived at Aston Villa in 2018 from Hibernian, and has since represented the club 150 times, scoring 16 goals. His marauding runs from midfield are what appeals to Spurs' manager Conte, who is looking to add a dynamic box-to-box midfielder to his squad for the new 2022-23 Premier League campaign.
Surprisingly, McGinn could be available for a fee as low as £25 million, as Villa themselves appear open to selling the Scot.
McGinn's contract at Villa runs until 2025.
