Chelsea close to signing Barcelona star?

Chelsea are reportedly close to signing Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer.

The Frenchman was on the Blues' radar in January this year, but he opted to stay put with the Catalan giants.

However, he is now free to choose his next club, considering his contract expires at the end of next month.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blues have revived their interest in Dembele with their takeover almost done.

The consortium led by Todd Boehly has been granted permission from the UK government to become the new owners.

A formal announcement is expected by May 31, and this is set to be followed by a major spending spree this summer.

The Blues are expected to sign multiple defenders, but they also appear keen on pursuing Dembele on a free transfer.

Dembele previously worked under Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, and the German is keen on a reunion.

The Frenchman could also welcome the move as the Blues will hand him a decent hike on top of signing-on fees.
