Man Utd need to pay £51m to sign South American star

Manchester United need to pay around £51 million to sign Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez this summer.

The Red Devils are determined to land the 24-year-old centre-back, but so far, they have failed to convince Ajax to do business.

It was recently claimed that they had met Ajax's £42m asking price for the defender, but that does not appear to be the case.

According to De Telegraaf, Ajax have rejected United's latest transfer offer, and are now asking for £51m to sell Martinez.

Ajax have been playing hardball in selling the Argentine, and there are no surprises, considering they have sold key players.

As many as four starters including Sebastien Haller and Andre Onana have left the club. Ajax are reluctant to lose more stars.

Hence, they are delaying negotiations as much as possible such that they can receive a premium fee for their prized assets.

United may have to meet their demands or else look at alternative transfer options.
