Josip Juranovic to swap Celtic for Atletico Madrid

Croatian international defender Josip Juranovic is set for a sensational transfer away from Scotland to Spain, after just one year playing for the Scottish champions Celtic. The 26-year-old right-back will move to Atletico Madrid, in a deal expected to be worth around 18 million euros to the Glasgow side.

After an impressive one year with the Bhoys, Juranovic has been contacted by Atletico Madrid representatives and now looks set for a sensational switch to La Liga. Having worked his way up through the Croatian leagues before making a transfer to Polish giants Legia Warsaw, Scottish side Celtic came calling and Juranovic moved for a fee of £2.5 million.

Last week, Juranovic told Croatian media: “I hope there was something in the stories, but honestly I didn’t even ask our manager or anything about it. I didn’t care.

“I have to keep my feet firmly on the ground. It was Atletico Madrid after all, but I’m at a big club already, Celtic."

Atletico Madrid have been in discussions with Celtic since Tuesday and are confiden a deal can be wrapped up at some point in August.
