Arsenal defender undergoing medical at French club

Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares is undergoing his medical with Marseille ahead of his season-long loan deal.

The Portuguese has been allowed to leave the Gunners this summer following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Both Atalanta and Marseille were keen on landing him on loan, but the Gunners have preferred the latter.

Marseille played a big part in William Saliba's progress last term, and he is now expected to make his Arsenal debut.

The London giants will be hoping that Tavares can also produce strong displays for Marseille in the coming season.

The 21-year-old looked out of depth defensively for the Gunners last term. The lack of first-team experience was visible.

He should be assured with regular minutes at Marseille, and only time will tell whether he can develop into a top player.

Arsenal currently have Kieran Tierney and Zinchenko as the regular left-backs, and Tavares' future at the club looks bleak.

If he were to impress at Marseille, the Gunners could be tempted to sell him for a decent profit at the end of next season.
