Erik ten Hag provides update on Eriksen and Martinez

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez are fit to start on Sunday.

The Red Devils begin their Premier League campaign with a home game against Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.

Ahead of the curtain-raiser, Ten Hag has acknowledged that Eriksen and Martinez could make their full United debuts.

He said: "We need competition in the squad, but also we are going into a long season with a lot of games. We need a lot of good players. They are fit enough to start."

Martinez is a left-footed central defender and he is widely expected to slot alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the backline.

Meanwhile, Eriksen could play in the centre of the park alongside Fred, having impressed from the position for Brentford lately.

Aside from Martinez and Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia also looks on course to make his Red Devils debut from the left-back position.

The Netherlands star played more minutes than Luke Shaw in pre-season, and appears set to get the nod in the starting XI.
