Damsgaard arrives in England

Brentford have moved swiftly to sign Denmark international Mikael Damsgaard in a deal worth around £12 million. Sampdoria have reluctantly decided to sell the attacking midfielder, who famously scored a free-kick goal against England in the Euro 2022 semi-final.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has bolstered his squad with the arrival of his fellow countryman, and will be delighted to have signed Damsgaard having missed out on a transfer for Christian Eriksen earlier in the summer. Eriksen moved to Manchester United on a free transfer after a successful spell with Brentford last season.

The 22-year-old has penned a five year deal with Brentford and will be available for this weekend's Premier League game.

Last season, Damsgaard was only able to play in 11 games for Sampdoria after suffering a serious injury that would keep him out of action.

Brentford will play against Manchester United this weekend, and that will likely be the Dane's full debut for the club. Interestingly, Eriksen will be on the opposition side, his first return to the Bees' stadium since deciding to play for United.
