Chelsea to open contract talks with midfielder

Mount set for new Chelsea deal?

Chelsea are planning to open contract talks with Mason Mount following the renewal of Reece James.

James signed a new six-year deal with the Blues today. He has become the club's highest-paid defender in history at £250,000-a-week.

According to The Telegraph, the west London giants will now prioritise an extension for Mount whose contract expires in two years.

The midfielder turned down a deal worth £150,000-a-week earlier this year, and he may now demand close to what James is earning.

Mount has been a key player for the Blues over the past few seasons. He managed a stunning 29 goal contributions last campaign.

He has yet to open his tally this term, but the Blues have huge faith in his potential to develop into a world-class star in the coming years.

Aside from Mount, the Blues are also planning to hand an improved deal to goalkeeper Edouard Mendy despite his patchy form this season.

The Senegal international has been a key part of the club's success, though his performances this term have been far from convincing.
