Manchester City to beat Chelsea to Josko Gvardiol?

Manchester City could be one on the front-runners to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol next summer.

Chelsea attempted to sign the Croatian earlier this summer. They wanted to finalise a pre-agreement for next season.

However, a deal did not materialise due to the €90m price tag, and Gvardiol ended up signing a new long-term contract.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea will make a fresh approach next year, but they are no longer alone in the pursuit.

Manchester City are also big admirers of the central defender, and they are set to provide stiff competition for his services.

The Cityzens were willing to sell Nathan Ake earlier this year, but they made a sudden U-turn on their transfer decision.

However, they could change their stance again next summer. Gvardiol's arrival could pave the way for Ake's departure.

Ake was a top target for Chelsea during the recent transfer window until Pep Guardiola's side made the choice to keep him.
