Todd Boehly wanted to keep Billy Gilmour at Chelsea
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was reportedly keen on keeping midfielder Billy Gilmour at the club this summer.
The Blues made several signings during the ongoing transfer window, but there were also some high-profile departures.
Romelu Lukaku left on a season-long loan to former club Inter Milan while Timo Werner rejoined RB Leipzig permanently.
Gilmour was another surprise departure to Brighton & Hove Albion, but it appears Boehly urged him to continue at Chelsea.
According to The Athletic, the Blues owner wanted Gilmour to stay, but the midfielder opted to leave in the search for minutes.
The Scotland international was excited to work under Graham Potter at Brighton, but he is no longer their head coach.
In a stunning change of events, Potter has now become Chelsea manager after the untimely dismissal of Thomas Tuchel.
It remains to be seen whether the London giants attempt to re-sign Gilmour from the Seagulls when the transfer window reopens.
Gilmour was once regarded as the most gifted academy graduate at Chelsea, but he was largely out of contention under Tuchel.
